An excess applies in the event of an accident or damage to the vehicle. This is the amount you are liable for in the event of damage or loss to the vehicle, and is referred to as your liability.
Moto has three levels of cover available - Moto Basic, Moto Plus and Moto Premium. The table highlights the inclusions and exclusions in each level. Moto Premium is our recommended insurance cover level as the excess is $0 (zero excess cover), in the unfortunate event of an accident. Moto Plus has a variety of excess levels based on the vehicle you hire.
Please note all hirers must have a credit card or debit card, the details of which we will hold as pre-authorisation security for the excess during your hire. In every case the applicable excess amount for your hire will be held as an authorisation on your card, and will be released at the end of your hire. Cash, prepaid and reloadable debit cards, gift cards and Travel cards, are NOT accepted for payment or to use as a pre-authorisation for security purposes.
We will take a NZ$200 security pre-authorisation on all credit card payments, or a NZ$400 security pre-authorisation on all debit card payments, for the duration of your hire for any incidentals. All holds on credit and debit cards funds are released upon return of the rental car if no damage or fees are owing on the hire. It can take up to 7 working days for your bank to operate the release. Please note this is a hold on a credit card meaning it doesn't show as a transaction on your statement.

In New Zealand there is no such thing as compulsory cover (even third party) so you can lose money as a result of someone else’s poor driving.
We do not offer insurance for personal loss, ie. theft of personal items or personal injury. In New Zealand treatment for personal injury is covered by the Government’s Accident Compensation scheme.
Glass damage including stone chips is already included in our Moto Premium cover option.
Driver must be over 20 to book a car with us. Please remember that all drivers must have a current full driver licence at all times. If your licence is not in English, you must carry an official English translation or International Driver Permit (IDP) together with your original licence.
